MSc in Psychoanalytic Developmental Psychology
Head of Course: Dr. Avi Shmueli
This MSc programme is a joint venture between University College London and the Anna Freud Centre.
The course provides a foundation for individuals interested in childhood development, by uniquely combining theoretical consideration of psychoanalytic perspectives on developmental issues and inter-family relationships with year long observations of infants and children.
This interweaving of theory and practical observation means that the programme is ideal for
- People who plan to work with children and families across a wide range of settings
- Those wishing to proceed to a child psychotherapy or adult therapy training
- Professionals already working with children and families who wish to enrich their clinical practice and theoretical understanding and to have a 'space' to think about their work
- Students hoping to develop a career in research with children and families or progress to a PhD
The Anna Freud Centre's clinic specialises in therapeutic work which promotes the emotional health of families and development from infancy to adolescence.
The Centre's internationally regarded research programme has done much to advance the scientific understanding of child development.
It is currently conducting research into areas such as evaluating the efficacy of psychological treatment, reflective functioning; longitudinal studies of attachment relationships; adoption outcome; and parent-infant intervention.
One of the unique features of the MSc is that it combines UCL's high academic standing and is enriched by its clinical location and access to weekly diagnostic seminars and case discussions.
