The Better Bonds Project
The aim of this 3-year project is to evaluate the effectiveness of Mellow Parenting in improving the relationship between mothers with borderline personality disorder and their infants aged between 18 months and 4 years of age.
The study stems from a lack of literature addressing the specific parenting needs and obstacles faced by patients with borderline personality disorder.
The use of Mellow Parenting as a course of treatment should see a reduction in the behavioural problems in the infants, and fewer children removed from their families by child protection services.
It is further expected that mothers will experience improved mental health and may engage with adult mental health services following the end of the Mellow Parenting intervention.
This project is funded by the Department of Health and is a collaboration between the Anna Freud Centre, University College, London and the North East London Mental Health Trust (NELMHT).
